A plain English guide to your own WordPress site, written for you

If you've taken over a WordPress site that someone else built, you've probably got questions nobody can answer. Who hosts it? Which of the plugins actually do anything? Where does the phone number in the header get changed? What happens if you click update? The person who knew has usually moved on, and nothing was written down.

A site handover document is the answer to all of that in one place: what your site is made of, who can get in, what every plugin does, where the custom code lives, where everything is edited and what is safe to change, plus a diary of every renewal and housekeeping job. It's the document you'd have been given if whoever built the site had handed it over properly.

You can put one together yourself. Our webinar Make sense of the WordPress site you've inherited shows you how, and most people manage it in an afternoon. This is the option where we do it for you.

What you'll get:

  • We go through your site from the inside: access, hosting and domain, backups, theme, editor or page builder, plugins, custom code, forms and notifications, and where each part of the site is edited
  • Your handover document, written in plain English for someone who has never seen the site, with a note against anything only you can answer, such as who holds a login
  • A diary list of every renewal and regular job, with dates and how often
  • A Word document that belongs to you, within five working days of us having access

It's a document, not a fix. Nothing on your site is changed. Where we find something that needs doing, it goes in the document with a plain English note on what it would take. If you'd rather have the problems sorted at the same time, our one off WordPress health check does that.

What we need from you: an administrator login for your site, which you remove when we've finished. Once you've paid we'll email you to arrange it and to ask a few questions about the site. If you can't get into the site at all, don't worry: we can help with that too.
